Interpol at Hollywood Bowl

With a bright disco ball shooting rays of light on a rather dark Hollywood Bowl stage, Interpol made their entrance in support of their new album Maruader. We last caught the band on their 15th anniversary tour for Turn On The Bright Lights — and while this Hollywood Bowl show was in support of their latest album Maruader, theproverbial “bright lights” were in full effect.

It is a bit hard to describe an Interpol show beyond saying it’s an Interpol show. Dark, backlit, stoic, static come to mind — essentially if you love Interpol, you will know and love it. They’re not going to make any effort to win anyone over with banter or charm. They just play, and exude this badass vibe, and this is all that is needed. The closest it got to chatting was frontman Paul Banks mentioning: “It’s an honor to be here at the Hollywood Bowl. It’s intimate and huge at the same time.” I think the reason why the Bowl can feel like an intimate space to Interpol is because they still craft that exact same show they would in a small dark venue. Nothing really changes (and that’s a great thing) except for a bigger disco ball and larger “bright lights”
