A bunch of bad bitches took over The Echo Wednesday night. With the evening headlined by the highly anticipated European imports, Dream Wife.  British-Icelandic power punk and gender non-conforming trio, made some noise in LA. Supported by Russo and Aquadolls, it was an eventful evening full of female-led acts.

Before diving into the greatness that was Dream Wife at The Echo, the night kicked off with Aquadolls, an all female four-piece who looked innocent enough in their Josie and the Pussycats stage attire. The group quickly revealed they meant business bossing the crowd around and demanding attention. They had been chosen when headliners Dream Wife put out a call for local supporting bands that feature female identifying or non binary music projects. Dream Wife was overwhelmed with submissions receiving over 400 applications. Also on the bill was Russo who fit right in with hard hitting front women who by coincidence all could have all passed for sisters. Russo definitely won over a bunch of the audience that night spitting lyrics that had everyone up in arms.

Headlining the night was acclaimed London-based band Dream Wife. A band that has a mid 90’s rock sound syncopated with a punk delivery. Icelandic-born front woman Rakel Mjöll stomped around the stage and assumed power poses like a general gathering her army to take down the patriarchy all while flashing an innocent looking disarming grin. She was joined by a masked Alice Go on guitar and Bella Podpadec on bass. The band played most of their 2018 self titles debuts album which features a collaboration with Fever Dream. Towards the end of their set Mjöll called for everyone in the front row to make room for all the bad bitches in the venue to come up front. She fiercely lead them on a merciless cry of defiance “I am not my body/I am somebody” in her war cry of a song “Somebody”. If you have been feeling rage against the abusive men in positions of power Dream Wife is the perfect band to listen to before you set the world on fire.
