Thom Yorke has been on a solo U.S. tour for a month and it’s not for the casual Radiohead fan. Last nigh, Yorke performed at the Orpheum Theater LA and his set heavily sunk into his solo work especially from the albums Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes and The Eraser. Also featured are songs off Atoms for Peace, which included a guest appearance by bandmate Flea. The final song of the night was Unmade off the chilling new Suspiria album.
The show felt very transcendent and combined with a fluid nebula of visuals being projected on large screens which filled the whole of the stage. It had a feeling of space and time being compressed into a singularity. In the solemnness of the Orpheum Theater however, it felt like a call to worship. From the tribal drum beats, Yorke’s choirboy falsetto, monk-like chanting and wailing which resembles an Adhan being called out by a muezzin, it felt like Yorke was compressing all that has ever inspired reverence into a final clear statement of awe.
Opening for Yorke was Oliver Coates who soothed concert goers into their seats.
