The Woggles may not be a household name but they have been an active band for over 30 years and they are not slowing down a bit. The garage rock veterans consist of “The Professor” mighty Manfred on lead vocals, Dan Elextro on drums, Buzz Hagstrom on Bass and Flesh Hammer on guitar. I’m thinking these are not their birth-given names but they serve as great descriptors. Anyone who has seen The Woggles over the last few decades will recognize Manford’s high-octane delivery. He sways back and forth with the mic stand above his head, jumps into the dancing crowd multiple times — this past Friday night he climbed onto and leaped from the Hi Hat’s bar (it’s a pretty high bar). Manfred’s energy is directed by a great rhythm section who are effortlessly complicated in the way a garage band with a lifetime of experience should be.

Opening for The Woggles were The Two Tens an LA favorite. Duo Adam Bones and Rikki Styxx always provide a fun high-energy punk vibe but no one, not even Manford, can top the insane energy of Pat, the guitarist and vocalist of The Schizophonics. While watching The Schizophonics, one wonders where they went wrong with their cardio health. How does this man continue to jump, thrash and pull James Brown moves all the while singing and playing guitar (single handedly for the most part). It’s easy to forget he is the one playing lead guitar although the band is only a three piece. They are definitely a band best served live. Friday night’s show was the last date on the tour for these bands but do check them out when they come around again.
