If Thom Yorke was a Jedi, he would be approaching Yoda status. This past Tuesday night at the Greek Theatre, L.A. — Yorke’s musical mastery was on full display. Like Yoda, he tottered around the stage playing with all the vibrations of the universe with a delightful smile on his face. Behind him was a stunning abstract of colorful videos that mirrored the cosmic vibrations.

Watching all this, it’s hard to imagine Yorke as the same punk that wrote Radiohead‘s “Creep” some 20-plus years ago. Yorke’s music now transcends himself, and allows for us mere mortals to peek into the music that is no longer defined by the man.

Most of Thom Yorke‘s two-hour set was from his most recent releases but he did throw in a couple Atoms for Peace songs. The most poignant, however, perhaps because it was so bare compared to the multilayered music from the rest of the night — was Yorke’s first song of the encore. “Dawn Chorus” was raw and quiet and dripping with humanity. It was just Yorke and a piano.

Thom Yorke’s entire performance was a trip through the universe, but that song was earthbound; touching and exposed.
