Just in time for the heart-filled hallmark holiday, Taleen Kali has shared the Astrobrite remix of her unique cover of The Supremes‘ “Baby Love.” Dark and sweet, and full of galactic distortion — the track is an eccentric take on the beloved classic; more so now since the recent passing of Mary Wilson, the longest-reigning original Supreme.
“Baby Love” is one of the first songs I remember singing along to as a little girl,” shares Kali. “I would sing it for my parents all the time. Hearing about Mary Wilson’s passing this week has been heartbreaking. She changed my life and the face of music itself, and it feels painful to release our Supremes cover this week. This one goes out to you Mary. We will do our best to honor your memory in song.”
With Taleen Kali’s original cover of “Baby Love” focusing more on the bittersweet vocals of Kali, the new Astrobrite remix trades an occasional twinkling guitar for non-stop fuzz bombs while echoing Kali’s distant vocals across a vast universe. It’s as though her voice were taking a ride on the radiant beams of a neutron star.

1. Define love
I’m really into Bell Hooks’ definition of love from her book of essays “All About Love.” She argues that we’d all do better if we used the word love as a verb– a set of concrete manifestation of actions rather than an abstract concept. She writes, “We would all love better if we used it as a verb.” I like to think of love in this way, as a verb, an action, and a choice.
2. What are some ways you practice self-love?
Writing every morning and every evening. Taking myself on dates. A bath every day.

Ou I love this question! Yes and no. I think everyone deserves love even if they struggle to love themselves. And yet, I think loving yourself–or at least the practice of loving yourself–helps you give and receive love on a deeper level.
