For round two of our best shows of the month we’ve got five amazing shows for you to check out! Most importantly though, it’s not going to weigh heavily on your wallet to go see one or even multiple concerts we’ve got listed below! With tickets ranging from as low as $12 with fees you’re going to find a little extra cash in your wallet for merch and drinks, who doesn’t love that? Part two of our August list also features a number of Los Angeles-based artists that you absolutely need on your radar!

Aug. 10 — Pussy Riot with REI AMI at the El Rey Theatre
Coming off the release of their most recent album Matriarchy Now the explosive feminist protest rockers Pussy Riot are descending upon the El Rey Theatre tonight. Not to mention the group will have as openers the hilariously acerbic Sarah Silverman and kickass pop-phenom REI AMI. Known as much for their combustive live shows as they are for their multi-colored ski masks, Pussy Riot are an unstoppable force. We here at Grimy Goods have caught them on the road a number of times and whether its a theatre or festival set the group play both with the same colossal energy.

Aug. 10 — James the Fifth at Resident
Rising Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter and producer James the Fifth will be taking the stage at the Resident tonight to give fans a first-listen of his debut album Days of Wine, with openers Host Family and Harry the Nightgown. A sublime collection of vibrant psych-pop creations, a quick listen of the album and the string of singles he’s released prior to it are all you need to realize you’d be missing out on something truly special not attending James’ set. The guy is even known for his potent funny bone — just check out the music video for his clamorous jam “Love Life” or “Blondie.”

Aug. 11 — Booker T. Jones at the Skirball Cultural Center
The Skirball Cultural Center has a legendary night in store for those attending Booker T. Jones’ performance on August 11. Known for his creation at just 17-years-old of Memphis soul band Booker T. and the M.G.’s — not to mention working with other seminal artists like Otis Redding, Bill Withers, and Wilson Pickett. The night promises a “Stax Revue” of the singer’s most iconic songs while also highlighting his continued prolific work as a musician. He recently released a new album titled Note by Note which served as a follow-up to his The Road from Memphis, which saw him collaborate alongside The Roots. Aug. 11 & 12 — Odesza with Tycho at KIA Forum
If you’re looking for something a little more mind-bending and visually stimulating, look no further than Odesza and Tycho’s upcoming performance at the KIA Forum on August 11 and 12. Anyone who’s seen either live knows they like to pair immersive visuals with their equally resounding soundscapes. Odesza recently dropped his massively epic The Last Goodbye which added a cinematic breadth to the artist’s already stirring sonics. Meanwhile chillwave and riff bender Tycho’s 2020 sixth album Simulcast is still on a steady repeat.

Aug. 12 & 13 — Peaches at the Fonda Theatre
Peaches in all their wondrous glory will be playing the Fonda Theatre for two nights and the fact that plenty of tickets are available still means its a heavenly sign you should be going. Ecstatic and wild, no one emerges from a Peaches show quite the same afterwards and if you’ve never caught the electropunk goddess live you’ll be kicking yourself if you miss this chance. It’s been a hot minute since the 2015 release of Rub but the album’s synth-chaos still slaps. Though she has released two incredible singles in the interim in the form of “Flip This” and “Pussy Mask.” Trap metal rapper Lil Mariko will also be opening both nights so a run-through of her frantically ferocious self-titled debut is necessary prep.
