Taleen Kali is back with a music video for the title track “Flower of Life,” off their upcoming album due out March 3, 2023, and a new date in Los Angeles date at Rubycon Records on Aug. 26. When we first covered this song we told you what a verifiable banger it was, with its maxed out guitars and Kali’s electric howls. But the new music video adds another dimension to the track’s blistering anthemics, one that hones in on the artist’s punk-state-of-mind resilience.

“‘Flower of Life’ was a spiritual concept I held onto for a long time before writing this song. The flower is a fractal, a cycle, ever blooming, ever decaying,” Taleen Kali explained. “For our 1st music video, we wanted to honor this cycle by highlighting the cultural moments we experienced in the recent past as a way of celebrating our resilience while also looking ahead to the future. For our band right now, it means being able to perform again and tour to support our upcoming album. In the larger scheme of things, it means so much more.”

In the video for “Flower of Life,” directed by Joe Rubinstein, the band put a spotlight on examples of the types of resistance their song is meant to light a fire under and support. You can see shots from LGBTQ pride marches, protests against the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, Armenian demonstrations in Los Angeles against the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, Black Lives Matter rallies and the 2017 Women’s March.

And in between these powerful images of people joining together to fight for fundamental human rights, there are scenes of Kali and her band absolutely shredding away, as well as stark images of vibrant flowers in bloom. The video captures the torrent of passion that flows through “Flowers of Life,” a passion that’s harnessed to be the very soundtrack and dynamo for the revolutionary movements the band is trying to uplift. A voice is only as powerful as the person wielding it. And Kali’s voice — raging euphorically as it does against 10 different guitars to get up and fight for what’s right — is more potent than ever.
