While the second night of the Weeknd‘s sold-out After Hours Til Dawn concerts at Sofi Stadium was cut short due to Abel Tesfaye‘s voice giving out after a couple songs, fans who attended the Weeknd’s Friday night (Sept. 2) performance at SoFi experienced a concert that they will never forget.

But before the love fest took place with The Weeknd, both Kaytranada and Mike Dean opened the show. Kaytranada was a magnetic dance machine. Soon as he played “Lite Spots,” it was as though my body woke up and went into high gear. While I began moving and grooving to the beats, it was a bummer to see how lackluster most of the crowd was. Y’all need to learn how to move to great music, and not just mainstream radio ish. Hot off the heels from his set at This Ain’t No Picnic, Kaytranada was fire.

With part of The Weeknd’s performance being filmed for his upcoming HBO series The Idol, all the sleek production was present. From the dancers draped in sheer red from head-to-toe, and the sweeping cityscape stage design, to a giant full moon hanging from above the opposite end of the SoFi Stadium and of course, a variety of lighting and some fiery pyro — it was quite the production. Reality stars like Kendall Jenner were seen in the crowd, as well as Eli Roth chillin’ in the photo pit (which was massive, btw).

As the stage lights illuminated the catwalk, and lasers began to reveal the cityscape erect stage left, fans began to roar with excitement in anticipation of The Weeknd. To their surprise, a woman in a white gown took to the stage delivering a dramatic prose of how “he saved my life.” It was Lily-Rose Depp, actress and daughter of Johnny Depp. She is currently in production with Tesfaye on his upcoming HBO series The Idol. It suddenly all made sense. Rumors of the two dating were swarming, especially after seeing the sexy trailer for The Idol (watch below).

But when The Weeknd did indeed arrive, with his mysterious group of dancers cloaked in blood red, Tesfaye of course was in full character, wearing an creepy Hannibal Lecter-like mask. Opening up with the first part of “Alone Again” — fans were screaming at the top of their lungs. The young women behind me were near frantic at the sight of Tesfaye shaking his hips and throwing his arms out in a playful tease.

Taking us through a darkwave English disco, the dance party started with “Gasoline.” At this point, SoFi Stadium was steaming hot. As I danced along to “Sacrifice,” a damn mosquito bit my arm, but that did’t stop me and the entire floor from dancing to songs like “I Can’t Feel My Face,” “Take My Breath,” “Starboy,” “Blinding Lights” — or from singing along to “The Hills,” “Save Your Tears” and “I Feel It Coming” (view the full set list here).

As expected, The Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn show at Sofi Stadium was a PDA fest. I mean, how can it not be when it’s The Weeknd. People were swapping spit and canoodling left and right. Solo girls and boys were screaming at the top of their lungs as they looked to Tesfaye in pure awe (or lust). Some scam & jams were made, some long-term connections were solidified, and I’m sure some future parents will have a story to tell their kid one day about how The Weeknd at SoFi Stadium helped bring them earthside.

While night 1 of the Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn tour at SoFi Stadium could not have been more perfect, fans who attended night 2 pretty much got screwed. Sadly, Tesfay’s voice gave out just after a few songs. The Weeknd gave a sincere apology, explaining that his voice gave out and he would no longer be able to go on with the performance. It was quite the heartbreak for both fans and The Weeknd alike. But a new Los Angeles concert date will be scheduled.

The Weeknd took to his Instagram today to express some good news:

“doctor says my voice is safe and with rest i’ll be solid and able to bring the show my TORONTO fans are waiting for,” wrote the 32-year-old musician, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, before noting that a new “LA date is being worked out soon.”

Night two fans, your time will come.
