This is a big year for New York based indie pop band, MisterWives. A band that’s only been together since 2012, they’re making some big moves that will no doubt propel them nicely in their career. With the launch of their first full length LP, Our Own House, they’ve been hitting the festival circuit this summer as well as regular venue gigs along the way. After seeing their impressive set at the Hangout Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama earlier this month, it was with great anticipation we caught their performance at San Francisco’s popular venue, The Independent this week.

Once in a while, when catching a show, there seems to be that extra indescribable something in the mix that elevates it into another realm entirely. Call it magic, mojo, or whatever, it appeared to be present this past Thursday night as the band hit the stage. Making up a previously cancelled show, the venue was sold-out and filled with fans who were primed and ready to dance and party with this exceptional band. True to pop style, the songs are catchy, fun, danceable and explosive. Vocalist Mandy Lee not only has remarkable vocal abilities and style, but as a performer, she’s one of the most magnetic personalities on today’s stages. It was obvious on the huge stage at Hangout and even more so in the confines of The Independent. Constantly working the stage from left to right, engaging fans and band mates alike, she keeps the energy high and focused. Slowing things down occasionally allowed them to catch their breath and also created moments where fan appreciation rose to the surface. Mandy and all the band members expressed sincere appreciation to the fans which was continually reciprocated throughout the night. There was an energy in the room that gave the evening a unique warmth as band and fans enjoyed a back and forth love and appreciation.

As they continue through the summer with more festivals and shows, it’s likely they will gain much more attention as well as an expanded fan base. This is a band on the move and we can expect to see their career continue to blossom.
