During Saturday night’s Beyond Wonderland’s electronic dance music festival near the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington state, a mass shooting occurred at the nearby campgrounds, resulting in two fatalities and several injuries.
According to authorities, three individuals were wounded including the shooter.
The incident occurred while the festival was still ongoing, and the report of the shooting came in at approximately 8:25 p.m.
During a press conference held at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 17th in the neighboring town of George, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office verified that two individuals had lost their lives. The spokesperson refrained from disclosing any information regarding the identities of the deceased or injured as the investigation was still ongoing.
According to the spokesperson, when law enforcement officials arrived at the location, the shooter continued to “fire randomly into the crowd”before being apprehended.
The severity of the shooter’s injuries and the condition of the two survivors of the attack were not revealed.
Despite the violence nearby, the music had continued at Beyond Wonderland on Saturday night.
“Please avoid the Gorge Gate H campgrounds area as it is closed due to an incident that has been handled by local authorities,” festival organizers tweeted around 10pm that night. “There is no current danger to festival goers or the campgrounds.”
