Artists You Should Know: DJ_Dave Teleports To A Digital Universe On New Single And Music Video “Array”

New York experimental-pop artist and producer DJ_Dave has shared the lead single from her forthcoming new EP Intercell with the release of “Array.” A rapidly rising newcomer within the living coding and algorave scenes she was one of the first to realize an intersection between code-generated electronic music and pop. Now her avant-garde creations have found a home everywhere from Coachella’s DoLab to the Whitney Museum for a live-coded performance. She will also be going on tour with JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown this summer.

“Array” teleports you through a gleaming labyrinth of electronica. With a shuddering and rivetingly kinetic melody of bass and synth bursts, the track dazzles in its ecstatic fury. The process of creating it through code offers a sublime randomness that DJ_Dave finds particularly inspiring — as well as exceptionally vivid. Coupled with her gauzy and crystalline vocals “Array” becomes this dizzyingly beaming dynamo of energy that is difficult to resist and even harder to shake once it’s coded itself into your ear drum.

“‘Array’ feels like a culmination of everything I’ve learned in music and coding together thus far,” DJ_Dave said of the single. “Each song I write has its own energy that seems to come by chance depending on what the code spits back out at me during the production process. In making and listening to ‘Array,’ it immediately brought up imagery of light, explosions, and extraterrestrial landscapes, and getting to bring the vision to life was amazing.”

The new single also comes with a truly stunning music video that DJ_Dave enlisted the talents of artists Andy Rolfes, Char Stiles, Fenn Paider, and Diesel stylist Nikki Martinez to create. One that sees her climbing into and exploring a truly breathtaking digital universe. Its verdant and iridescent landscapes — created using the game engine Unreal and surreally layered with live volumetric capture footage — reflect the melodic imagery that gushes from the track.
