Exactly three years ago, on February 22, 2021, Daft Punk made headlines with their announcement of disbandment after 28 years of collaboration. Since then, they’ve observed the anniversary by sharing a piece from their extensive archive on February 22 in the subsequent two years.
Today, the band teased on their socials the above photo with the simple caption: “Livestream on http://twitch.com/daftpunk at 10:22pm, GMT/2:22pm PT” Leaving fans confused and in hopes of a Daft Punk reunion, the post was simply to celebrate Daft Punk Day. But, you never know …
As the anniversary of Daft Punk Day recurs, the iconic French duo is honoring their unparalleled musical journey by showcasing their film ‘Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem’ on their Twitch channel.
This hour-long “space opera,” overseen by Japanese animation legend Leiji Matsumoto and crafted in collaboration with Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo and Thomas Bangalter, serves as a continuation of the narrative initiated by the music videos for their hit singles “One More Time,” “Digital Love,” “Aerodynamic,” and “Harder Better Faster Stronger” from their groundbreaking 2001 album, Discovery.
How About That Daft Punk Reunion?
Last fall, their team swiftly debunked rumors suggesting that the French duo would be performing at the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony. Other than that, it’s been wishful thinking for fans (including us) and just a taste of “new music” with Daft Punk’s recent release of a “drumless” edition of their 2013 classic, Random Access Memories.
