Snotty Nose Rez Kids keep the hype burning for their sixth album RED FUTURE with a ferociously swaggering new single “DEVIL’S CLUB” (feat. Rezcoast Grizz). The duo—comprised of Haisla Nation rappers Yung Trybez and Young D—create bitingly bombastic tracks that refuse to shy away or sugarcoat the realities of Indigenous experiences. After their record drops on September 13th, the pair will embark on a North American run with the RED FUTURE TOUR, including a stop at The Echo in Los Angeles on October 10th.
As the fourth preview of their new project, “DEVIL’S CLUB” unleashes a torrent of gutsy bars that find Snotty Nose Rez Kids taking stock of all the ways success has (and hasn’t) sparked change. “‘N’ I’m new to counting mula, I just wish it happened sooner / I was used to being a loser, you should see my fucking crew now,” their buoying irreverence and bravado gets its hooks in you with the help of the track’s concussive beats. “Now I’m flying with the eagles, we see through you, thread the needle / We don’t listen to no chitter chatter from no flock of seagulls.”
Armed with bone-rattling bass the song’s concussive and searing rhythms leave you impossibly entranced. But as with any Snotty Nose Rez Kids release it’s their lyricism that keeps you coming back from more. “Never fly in first class, Brodie told me it ain’t worth it,” they confess, flipping the script on flexes of wealth, while still reveling in their triumphs. “We been working we ain’t finished yet, I do this for the feeling yeh / We been around the world and we all over the internet.”
“‘DEVIL’S CLUB’ has a double meaning. Most people would assume it’s our crew, our ride or dies, but devil’s club is actually a plant that is used as medicine for our people,” Yung Trybez said of the single. “It’s a dangerous plant, covered in spikes, but when cultivated and prepared properly holds a lot of power.”
Apsaalooke Nation singer/songwriter Rezcoast Grizz leaves his indelible mark on the track as well. Delivering a series of vehemently boisterous bars that stay thundering in your ears. Young D said of working with him: “We’ve been wanting to get one in with [Rezcoast Grizz] for a long time and we brought this to him thinking he might hit it with some of his R&B style vocals, but he came at it with an attack and bodied the hook and his verse. This is one of our favourite songs from the upcoming album.”
RED FUTURE arrives on September 13th. See Snotty Nose Rez Kids on the RED FUTURE TOUR at The Echo in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 10th.
