Still riding high on the back of recent songs “Skin” and “You Mean It (This Time),” indie pop singer-songwriter Chloe Berry is gearing up for a slew of releases with her latest spellbinding single, “In The Void,” out via Lauren Records. A NYC native, Berry first found herself artistically through fan fiction and poetry, gradually finding her writing style prior to formally venturing into songwriting at 16 years old. At the same time, she became drawn to coming-of-age narratives, a strong suit in her still-growing catalog that remains a constant in her music.

“In The Void,” which is steadily becoming Berry’s most popular song so far, combats against the void by creating an ethereal swirl with perfect harmony between her voice and the stellar production.

The song was written during a tumultuous point in her life, but the shimmering instrumentation stands in stark contrast to the vocals, which sound as though they’re coming from the bottom of a dark pit. Like other releases, the dreamy quality, which applies to the mixing, the stream-of-conscious lyricism, and everything in between, couldn’t be more apparent. However, what resonates most about the song is how easily applicable the ups and downs Berry sings about could be related to by listeners of a wide variety.

Although she only has a handful of tracks and EPs to her name, most notably her 2021 EP Blueberry Jams, each passing release carries over her familiar and introspective songwriting. With her recent signing to Lauren Records, her output as of late resembles the time it takes for an artist to come into their own—the only difference being it’s all happening at an accelerated rate.

Despite much of her catalog stemming from firsthand experiences that have happened to Berry through the years, the attentiveness to make sure each song is as universal as it is personal proves Berry’s reach as a songwriter. Now, at 23, she operates in a corner that, while close to Olivia Rodrigo and other contemporaries, is still unique to her and her only.
