March 20th marks one of the two times each year when we experience equal lengths of day and night, signaling the arrival of spring. What better way to celebrate the new blooms and warmer weather than with the groovy sounds of Sir Woman? Before we got lost in the groove at the Lodge Room, we were serenaded by the incredible vocals of Uncle Roy and Spice. They kept us “Jump’N” with a few of their unreleased tracks that explored themes of friendship, love, loss, and the lingering feelings of “what if.”

Shortly after, we were introduced to a giraffe print-covered crooner named David Meek and his special guest, Mackenzie, who performed “Be Your Man.” This is an upcoming single he will be releasing on April 11th.
With the equinox bringing in light, warmth, and renewed energy, the crowd initially seemed timid, as if still keeping their joy in hibernation and hesitant to let loose. That changed when a spirited concertgoer prompted them to dance by gently grabbing the hand of a woman beside her, ushering them to the front of the stage as they wiggled their shoulders side by side, all while Austin, Texas, wild child, Sir Woman, performed “Who You Gonna Love” softly in the background.

It was a beautiful night filled with dancing and laughter as Sir Woman grounded her feet into the Lodge Room floor and poured her heart and soul into the microphone. This was my first time experiencing Sir Woman live, and I had a fantastic time, especially since I love music that makes me feel like I’m part of an unplugged, raw, and funky jam session.
Additionally, her openers, who are also members of Sir Woman, added a special touch that created a seamless flow for the night. It felt like a warm family gathering. I find that so cool and would love to see more performers adopt a similar approach. I’m glad to end the first quarter of the year with a show filled with the warmth of people and community.
