As one of three singles from her latest EP, No Big Deal, Lous and The Yakuza laments the past and grapples with stress on “Good to know.” The latest solo material to come from the Congolese-Belgian singer-songwriter since 2022’s IOTA, the EP at large is Lous zeroing in on the lyrics to each track, with “Good to know” finding her detailing how the past has a hold on her.
On top of lo-fi R&B production, Lous switches between dissecting her inner thoughts and calling out an unidentified person, which could also represent herself, depending on the interpretation. Her songwriting from the get-go is painfully honest, not leaving out any unsure thought or hard-to-admit feeling that lingers on her mind.
It’s also impressive how Lous chooses to reserve French for the verses but sings in English on the chorus. Whether or not a listener understands one or both languages, the feelings come through thanks to Lous’ vocals capturing a mix of defeat yet resilience. In the song’s last leg, the R&B production slightly shifts and becomes more intense, matching Lous and her “Was it worth it?” calls to the void.
