In our latest Grimy Goods TV interview, we catch up with Swedish indie rockers Peter Bjorn and John at the Just Like Heaven music festival in Pasadena, California. Beneath a shady tree during a scorching 98-degree day, we discussed once being the “young folk” and now becoming the “old folks,” along with Gen-Z embracing their seminal indie rock. Peter and Bjorn shared how they had to relearn some songs from Writer’s Block for their anniversary tour, as it had been many years since the band had played several tracks from the album. We also talked about Peter’s dance moves (dude’s got moves, see them in the video interview) and the “degree of sport in a rock show,” particularly when Peter had to scale the massive stage wall in the blazing heat after singing in the crowd at Just Like Heaven.
We also dive into the many rappers who have sampled Peter Bjorn and John’s music. From Drake to Kendrick, Azealia Banks and French Montana, find out which sample tracks were their favorites and more.
Fun Fact: Does Peter have a lucky red jacket? We saw the band perform at the first Just Like Heaven in 2019, and noticed a similarity. See what Peter and Bjorn had to say about it.
