Grunge-punk quartet Cosmic Kitten is ushering their self-titled album out via Psyched! Records with the raucous single “Do it Alone.”

After kicking off their tour run this past Saturday in LA at the Redwood Bar, the San Pedro-based band is marking a new, unfiltered beginning with their fifth full-length release, their first on the Psyched! Records label.

Fittingly, the record, along with songs like “Do it Alone,” digs deep into the band’s collective psyche and ends up on the other side more polished than ever.

“This album delves into themes of existential struggle, emotional emptiness, and the desire for revenge or relief from pain caused by others,” said the band on Instagram. As for “Do it Alone,” lead singer Karen Marie said, “Sometimes the most loving thing you can do is to let go — to heal separately, to ‘do it alone.’”

In the case of “Do it Alone,” the track falls toward the motivational end of the album’s emotional spectrum, albeit favoring a devil-may-care attitude that’s more street-shouting than a calm TEDx talk.

Marie wastes no time in unleashing an onslaught of shouts. But it’s their lyrics that cut deeper, proudly proclaiming they’re going to speak their mind and “Do it again,” a statement made more grand by the razor-sharp guitar riffs and booming drums.

Near the song’s last leg, the energy slows ever so slightly, settling into a bulldozer speed that gets the job done just as well as the previously faster pace.

Of course, “Do it Alone” returns to its initial speed, ending on a high note to a song you can easily imagine tearing a live venue down.

See Cosmic Kitten in San Pedro at The Sardine on Nov. 16.
