With her sophomore album, Do Not Disturb, right around the corner with a Nov. 7 release date, Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko is reveling in her brand of trap music on the new single, “Likey Likey.”
To say the lead-up to Do Not Disturb has been a runway upward for Miko’s career would be putting it lightly. She recently appeared on Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft” Tour, as well as selling out a headline show at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, followed by an additional date.
That level of international stardom should be proof enough that Miko can do anything and garner a crowd around her in no time, something that is especially true given how “Likey Likey” has steadily risen in streams and plays.
However, the new single more than justifies that skyrocketing attention, her woozy yet self-assured delivery separating her from a pack of rappers worldwide turning to trap beats. Even on the production front, details such as cat calls in the background let Miko’s personality shine through the quippy track.
But of course, the main attraction is her one-liners. The first verse alone has lines like “Que se note que sean mala’ con pantallas en los nipps” and “Y enterita, desde el medio me la como como Twix,” both of which leave little to the imagination. That playfulness, though, is what makes Miko special compared to her contemporaries.
