Ukiah, California rockers AFI brought it on Friday afternoon at Coachella weekend two on the main stage, delivering their hits like a well-placed combination from a premiere heavyweight puncher.

AFI brought out the closet fan in everyone, as a well gathered audience showed up to perhaps relive some of their glory days when “Days of the Phoenix” helped propel them to being a mainstream threat. It’s hard to believe that they’ve been together for 23 years as their show Friday night looked like a couple of guys having a kick ass time rather than a band that’s been on the grind for a decade and a half.

AFI singer Davey Havok crowd-walked early in the set and the group saved their most memorable tracks for the end: the aforementioned “Days…”, as well as “The Leaving Song Pt II” and “Girl’s Not Grey”. It’s almost a bit of a shame that they weren’t higher up the bill, but they didn’t let it bother them one bit.

They’ve been a band for 23 years, not 15.
