As people slowly filtered into Exposition Park for FYF Fest 2014, New Zealand’s Connan Mockasin played a dreamy, well-received mid-afternoon set.
Listening to Mockasin play, it felt as though he had taken the crowd on a journey into the thick of Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides. There is no doubt Mockasin’s catalog would have fit as a perfect backdrop to that ’70s-based flick.
Shit, Mockasin LOOKED like Trip Fontaine, with his throwback sunglasses, long blonde hair, and unbuttoned shirt. The acid-wash sound of his relaxing and blissful jams was just the right way to start of what would be a long weekend of jams.
As people showed up frustrated at the long line to get in and hurdles of a new location, Mockasin helped people relax and remind them why they were there in the first place: to let the good times roll.
