Hozier

One of Coachella’s best surprises Saturday was when Hozier brought out Este Haim to perform a cover of The Time’s “Jungle Love.” But the rest of his 50-minute main stage set proved he’s not a gimmick, or a one-hit wonder.

Still, Coachella in 2015 hasn’t exactly been known for big surprises and Este’s entrance to the stage was well-received. “That was so fun, holy shit,” Haim said at the end of the song.

Many showed up mid-way through the set and weren’t disappointed that the song that’s been played every 15 minutes on the radio the last six months hadn’t been performed yet. “Take Me to Church” was another of Coachella’s massive singalongs on Saturday and there was nobody in the crowd who didn’t know all the words.

Hozier proved he’s a talented songwriter and those who got a glimpse of more than just the one hit definitely walked away impressed by the rest of his repertoire. He didn’t buckle under the pressure of the big stage later in the day and lived up to the billing. It could figure to be one of the most important performances of his young career.
