Saturday night’s Dilla Fest at Grand Performances in DTLA brought out a full house and a stacked lineup of performers featuring Illa J, DJ Rhettmatic of The World Famous Beatjunkies crew, Frank and Dank, and headliner; Talib Kweli with a live trio including Daru Jones! Celebrating the life of J Dilla, fans came out in droves to remember this great icon. The beautiful California Plaza was buying at the seams with nothing put good vibes and much love. The energy was thick and can be felt throughout.
Being surrounded by skyscrapers, being deprived of live music and gatherings for what seemed like a lifetime, Saturday night was indeed a celebration. DJ Rhettmatic kept the crowd moving all night between sets as well as all the performers. Talib Kweli and the Daru Jones trio performed several songs from his catalogue including a lovely cover of Biz Markie’s “Just a Friend”. Plenty of happy, smiling faces. Check out the photos below.
