Los Angeles singer/songwriter Sonja Midtune has shared a new single with lumescent indie-pop piece “Growing Up (For You),” the second single from her forthcoming Golden Girl EP. The track was inspired by the artist’s desire to move on from sad girl melodics of her previous releases and to a embrace far more radiantly uplifting sound. On “Growing Up (For You)” her warm-sunburst vocals lend themselves to the song’s dreamily-breezy production as much as they do the melancholy soaked, folk-ballads of her Post Love and Dreams Melt Away EPs.

“Growing Up (For You)” reveals the intricate cross-roads of Americana that Sonja sits at — opening with the dusty rhythms of galloping drums and the driving gloam of myriad guitars. But it’s also imbued with an ethereal electronica that haunts the empty spaces between its lush instrumentation. Soaking everything from the radiant echo of twanging riffs and Sonja’s own luminous croons in its ghostly anthemics.
On “Growing Up (For You)” she weaves in and out of disbelief and cautious hope at the realization she’s finally found someone worth loving. But the irony of it all is that Sonja still finds herself stuck in her past where shitty relationships reigned. “Old hesitation I can’t make it go away / I’m holding a jealous heart, pulling at thin air,” she coos. Although in keeping with her newfound inclination towards penning happier music, “Growing Up (For You)” doesn’t stop there. Instead — as the title hints at — Sonja simply sees this as an opportunity to grow with her partner.
