Ibeyi

Ibeyi (sisters Naomi and Lisa-Kaindé) have shared a new single with the release of “Juice of Mandarins,” see them next year in Los Angeles at The Regent on Friday, Mar. 10 — rescheduled from The Ford. The duo actually first debuted the song amidst the vibrance of A COLORS SHOW, its yellow-pink splashed walls reflecting back the radiant passions that saturate this particular love song. Because from its lush melody to Ibeyi’s soul-soothing vocals that’s exactly what “Juice of the Mandarins” is — a revitalizing reminder of the bliss of the fall.

It’s why every tone and texture that Ibeyi weave into the song is designed to elate. From its buoyant percussion, sparkling instrumentals, and their own heartfelt cooing. Like fresh fruit gushing with a succulent, life-giving sweetness “Juice of Mandarins” overflows with an aural flow meant to rejuvenate. But love isn’t just healing — it can also be rapt and life-altering. “You are the thunder in my planet,” they pronounce in the song’s opening lines. And it’s in that power that you find shelter: “Hold onto me I’m going crazy / I’m detonating / I see you sharing the juice of mandarins,” Ibeyi harmonizes near the end.

“‘Juice of Mandarins’ is my favorite love song I’ve ever written. It is about the ecstasy of falling in love,” Lisa-Kaindé explained. “The sensuality of allowing someone to see all of you. It’s about reality becoming supernatural. Love is the most radical life-changing, meaningful experience, thus, ‘my love for you ain’t quiet.'”

After listening to the single do yourself a favor and check out their A COLORS SHOW performance, a series that always add this extra sensory dimension to artist performances. Ibeyi is no different as they duet against the color-blocked backdrop of sunny yellow walls and a splendidly pink stage. And it makes all the difference being able to see the duo’s absolute exquisite joy in performing the song live together, totally enamored in their own music in a way beautifully indicative of the love “Juice of Mandarins” itself describes.

most anticipated tours of 2024 concerts

“Juice of Mandarins” follows the release of Ibeyi’s third album Spell 31, an absolutely necessary meditation on the tumult and apathy the last few years have supplied, and a stellar feature of Residente’s fiery anthem “This Is Not América.”

Ibeyi will be going on tour later this month with a stop at The Regent in Los Angeles on March 10, 2023.
