Lido Pimienta by Ada Navarro Aguilera

Lido Pimienta is back with a new music video, this time for their collaboration with Argentinian DJ Chancha Vía Circuito on their scintillating track “Amor en Silencio.” The track first appeared on his album La Estrella and is one of the many recent partnerships that Pimienta has engaged in since the release of her radiant sophomore album Miss Colombia back in 2020. She’s teamed up with a rather stunning list of artists across Latin America — part of a greater effort by the artist to continue tapping into her Afro-Indigenous and Colombian roots.

Kept afloat by the airy and spacious rhythms created by Chancha for “Amor en Silencio,” the ever-mesmerizing vocals of Pimienta appear to levitate weightlessly. But her words are buoyed just as much by her sublime lyricism as it is by the song’s delicate mix of percussion and effervescent beats. Imbued with this effortless etherealness she ruminates over the way we humans fear the passage of time and grip greedily for more of it. Yet in reality, such worries often only keep us from living and enjoying it.

“El tiempo, el tiempo es una ilusión, que cura o duele en tu condición,” she sings on the song’s opening line. Later she gives voice to her epiphany: “Tiene que haber resignación y así pasar la página / Puedo ver la realidad sororidad.” Written on a train in New York the song came to life when Pimienta started to imagine herself back on her Mototaxi speeding through the shifting moments of her life: envisioning all the changing faces and landscapes she has encountered.

Directed by both Pimienta and Andres Gomez Castaño, the music video for “Amor en Silencio” was filmed in the Colombian town of Villanueva, La Guajira. Its creation held a deeply personal significance to the artist: not only did she grow up there but she also associates the place with many of her earliest artistic imaginings and daydreams. The very street they filmed on was where a young Pimienta used to play as a child and where family friends once more opened up their home to her as they had when she was younger. The video offers a beautiful spotlight on Villanueva, rendered tenderly and warmly in the memory Pimienta carries of it. Every shot of the video — as well as every second of the song — is filled with this bittersweet nostalgia for the places left behind in the course of life.
