Presented by Still Rising and Elevate Culture in collaboration with Amazon Music, the celebration is set to begin at 4p.m. PDT. Performances will be livestreamed on Prime Video and the Amazon Music channel on Twitch. Those who can’t make it in-person, can enjoy the festivities from the comfort of their homes.
Recently, the festival announced additional artists to its already impressive lineup. South Central star Kalan.FrFr, rising star Alex Vaughn, and renowned radio personality DJ Hed will grace the stage alongside Grammy Award-winning R&B icon Jazmine Sullivan. With such a diverse and talented lineup, it’s sure to be a day filled with amazing performances and good vibes.
In addition to the incredible lineup of performers, the festival’s main stage will also feature a screening of Generational Queens. This is the first in a series of short films that will be released throughout the year from Amazon Music. Directed by Fenn O’Meally and featuring a Black, all-female cast, the film centers around the first lady of hip-hop, Queen Latifah, and her groundbreaking, respect-demanding feminist anthem “U.N.I.T.Y.” which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. This is a unique opportunity to honor the trailblazing women who have contributed to the music industry and to the empowerment of Black women.
But that’s not all – the festival will also feature live interviews with festival hosts Rob Markman, Gia Peppers, Amber Grimes, and DJ Hed. They’ll chat with festival performers and participate in a special sit-down interview with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who will also address the crowd during the festival celebration. It’s a unique opportunity to learn more about the artists, the festival, and the community.
Leimert Park is the perfect setting for this celebration of Black culture and community. Located in the heart of South Los Angeles, it’s a vibrant and historic neighborhood that has been a hub for Black art and culture for decades. The festival will take place in Leimert Park Village, a pedestrian-friendly area filled with shops, restaurants, and galleries. Get ready to shop and support the community!
