With the release of her latest single “Hielo,” international anomaly MARIPOSA has announced the imminent arrival of her debut Otro Mundo EP. The new song is the third to be shared from the forthcoming project alongside previous releases “Murakami” and “Mentiras.” The five-track collection will see the Colombian-Italian iconoclast tackle with fierce tenacity everything from mental health and healing to avant-garde self-reflection.
MARIPOSA’s latest offering “Hielo” arrives as this volatile anthem of manic thoughts that burst from inside her head. Alongside a frenetically concussive beat, she weaves a supercharged and electrifying lyricism about escaping a chaotic world and even more chaotic mind. “Quiero escapar de este mundo,” she broods with bite. “Quiero desaparecer me en el obscuros.”
As ferociously agile as she is even when MARIPOSA is caught in life’s undertow — she comes out swinging. “Quiero escapar de mi cerebro / Odio ser eslava del systema,” she confesses with vehemence. Directing her ire at the people who would dare attempt to gatekeep her from her meteoric rise. Or, as she lucidly puts it: “Porque odian a alguien que gana.”
“Hielo” arrives as a reminder of her talent for articulating both the daily personal and existential anxieties of a generation. One that MARIPOSA delivers via the sharpest edge of her deeply incisive lyrics and an intoxicatingly relentless bravado — not to mention the cavernous soundscapes her oscillating beats implode within.
“‘Hielo’ is the second song I have ever made. This song was created after my producer and I had our first discussion,” MARIPOSA explained. “We had that discussion before going to the studio, so everything was created on that ‘frustrated’ feeling. Pepe Boks created the beat before I got to the studio, and when I heard it, the lyrics just came easily. ‘Hielo’ is the perfect summary of what is going on in my head. My energetic and aggressive side meet on this song.”
