The Red Pears Are Racked With Indecision On New Single "The Way You Talk"

El Monte trio The Red Pears is back with another fuzzed-out wailer with the release of their new single “The Way You Talk.” The band will also be performing as headliners for Viva! Pomona Festival on July 15th and opening two nights with Interpol at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles in October. The new song also serves as their first piece of music since their 2021 sophomore LP You Thought We Left Because The Door Was Open But We Were Waiting Outside.

Staying true to the clamorous garage rock that’s come to define their sound, “The Way You Talk” digs into a moment of dissonance within a rocky relationship. Delivered via their droning wails with delirious melancholy, the song wrestles with indecision over how to react to the realization that the person you love isn’t the person you thought they were.

As The Red Pears trade bemoaning cries and dismally murky riffs, they mull over the impasse they find themselves at. Ingraining themselves and their raw emotionality in every crashing cymbal and earnestly anxious guitar grumble. Offering a teetering balancing act between mania and agony as the song sways jauntily to its side-winding melody.

They emerge still flourishing their tendency for pensive, riff-led rollickers which has in the past earned them many comparisons to The Strokes. But after two formative albums Henry Vargas, Jose Corona, and Patrick Juarez have fostered a sound that spans the realms of indie-rock and grunge alongside cumbia and corrido. Representing the vanguard of a new generation of artists melding the rock of decades past with folkloric traditions both in melody and lyricism.
