He might seem like a newcomer, but producer-turned-artist Christien Scott has been around the block, as evidenced by his debut single, “I’VE BEEN LIED TO.” Based out of LA, he’s now going under Blake Bigfoot, a zany yet fitting name for someone emerging from the woods of music-making and into the spotlight.
Previously, he’s worked closely alongside a couple of up-and-coming names in the independent scene, supporting them with impeccable production that would lead to label signings. But now, Scott is making music for himself and going as far as to provide vocals on an alternative pop track with enough bittersweet edge to sound nothing like his peers.

Without prior knowledge that Scott himself was a producer, it’s possible to deduce that from how streamlined it is to his vocals. The nebulous instruments are filtered through heavy reverb, aligning perfectly with Scott’s equally altered voice that is tired and hopeless as it is weightless.
A sole sunny guitar is the only indicator that the song was potentially meant for pop listeners, underlined by ominous drones suggesting something darker is underneath the shallows. The roughly two-minute track ends abruptly, most likely in the same manner that the relationship Scott talks about on the track ended.

“I’VE BEEN LIED TO” is quite existential for a pop song. Taking about a year and a half to make the track and the soon-to-be-released EP, Styrofoam For Your Stomach, Scott dug deep into his past. “‘I’VE BEEN LIED TO’ is about being fooled by narcissists and rethinking your entire past with them,” said Scott on his Instagram. Similarly, he’s also rethinking his career and reimagining it as something more than just a producer. By the sound of it, he’s got the right ear and voice to reach greater heights.
