Mitski‘s new album, The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, releases on September 15th under Dead Oceans. To celebrate the news, the beloved singer-songwriter has shared the soaring lead single “Bug Like an Angel.”

With songs penned in small bursts over the past few years, the album is expected to showcase her most sonically expansive and wise work to date, where songs reopen old wounds while healing them simultaneously.

The companion video for “Bug Like an Angel,” directed by Noel Paul, delves into the themes of community and self-destruction, with the latter portrayed in a way that almost resembles a dance. Watch it all unravel below.

The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We was recorded at both the Bomb Shelter in East Nashville and Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles, and incorporates an orchestra arranged and conducted by Drew Erickson, as well as a full choir of 17 people arranged by Mitski.

Sometimes, Mitski says, it feels like life would be easier without hope, or a soul, or love. But when she closes her eyes and thinks about what’s truly hers, what can’t be repossessed or demolished, she sees love. “The best thing I ever did in my life was to love people,” Mitski says. “I wish I could leave behind all the love I have, after I die, so that I can shine all this goodness, all this good love that I’ve created onto other people.”

Is Mitski Announcing U.S. Tour Dates in 2024?

Mitski last toured the U.S., UK, and Europe in the summer of 2022 in support of her album Laurel Hell. The tour was a sold-out run. With a most memorable performance at Primavera Sound LA, along with other music festivals, fans can’t wait to experience Mitski live again. So, is Mitski touring in 2024?
