LP is back with another preview of their upcoming album Love Lines with the release of their joyous new song “Love Song.” They will also be going on tour this fall with stops at the House of Blues in Anaheim on October 21 and at the Youtube Theater in Los Angeles on November 24. It arrives as the third track to be shared from the forthcoming album — which arrives next month on September 29th — joining previous singles “Golden” and “One Like You.”

With “Love Song” the singer/songwriter directs their palpitating melodics toward the resurrection of a moment. “Gimme a love song,” LP rallies against the song’s excited bursts of percussion and jaunty riffs. “The words we used to sing before it all went wrong.” Propelled by its ebullient energy and pierced by heartache they emerge gleaming and hopeful. Locked as they are in the rapture of grasping for the experience and feeling of a long past euphoria.
“When we were recording in Palm Springs, I was working with Ashton Irwin of 5 Seconds of Summer, and he really wanted us to do an upbeat song for this session,” LP said of the song’s inception. “He came up with a beat, and Andrew added the riff. The title ‘Love Song’ came to me — it’s a very generic title obviously but conceptually I felt like I could hone it into an original story in its own right.”
Nothing about LP is ever generic or trite — a consequence of the insurmountable earnestness they imbue their lyricism and giddy pop with. Instead, “Love Song” leans toward being this archetypal ode to the rhapsodic power of music and its ability to transport (and haunt) us with its immediate expulsions of emotion. Reconstructing the vividly elusive impressions and feelings of a happier time. As LP cries out: “I find my way to you no matter what I do / You’re in my car you’re in my head you’re in my attitude.”
