Hot off a performance at Lollapalooza, the third in a tour consisting of shows opening for Paramore and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, LA-based punk quartet The Linda Lindas follow up “Too Many Things” with the confrontational single, “Resolution/Revolution.” Consisting of drummer Mila de la Garza, guitarist Lucia de la Garza, bassist Eloise Wong, and guitarist Bela Salazar, the band began covering new wave songs before transitioning into the punk band they are today.
While Grimy Goods first got hip to The Lindas Lindas in 2019 opening for Bikini Kill at the Hollywood Palladium, the band broke through when their library performance of “Racist, Sexist Boy” went viral and struck a chord for how it directly addressed bigotry too often written off. The same is true for “Resolution/Revolution,” another track that wastes no time delivering a highly effective power pop anthem fueled by riot-grrrl tendencies.

All four make their point as straightforward as possible with the lyrics, “This is no resolution / This is a revolution,” starting off with a bang and a justifiably sardonic tone. The sinister-sounding guitar and bass combo fuels their revolution, not stopping for one second or a breather. The only pause across the 3 minutes and 22 seconds is a ghostly choir singing “aahh” in the song’s refrain before resuming their hell-raising and proudly stating, “We’re so small, but we stand tall.”

Like previous singles, “Resolution/Revolution” soars for its simplicity and to-the-point message delivered with the kind of forwardness that makes protest music so resonant. Though just a lyric video, the visuals, shot by the band through their phones, capture the chaotic nature of the song thanks to editing by Eloise and art direction by Bela. Most of it is of the band and their off time between shows, serving as video proof they’ve kept busy by touring around the world.

In the same vein as “Racist, Sexist Boy,” The Linda Lindas hope their latest single leads to some change. “Bela had been rocking out to a lot of Pantera and Judas Priest when we started writing ‘Resolution/Revolution,’” said the band. “She came in with a riff and as we worked together, it morphed into composition about making small dents in big problems to make a difference in the long run.” Though they only just started dropping music in 2020, they’re clearly in it for the long run considering their dedication to touring and recording at a young age.
