After much anticipation spread across two years of bite-sized yet electrifying singles, Brooklyn electropop duo FIIZ take pop music on a midnight odyssey with their newly released debut EP NIGHTCAP.  Across the seven tracks, best friends Fiona and Isabelle take on the nightlife through the enraptured, synth-led self-discovery of “Lungs” and the entrancing melancholy of “Phantom Limb,” both of which were singles that led up to the EP’s release.

In a literal sense, NIGHTCAP centers around the idea of capping the night together despite the wider world’s turmoil and complicated ongoings. On top of that, NIGHTCAP proves that the two are more than ready to take the pop stratosphere by storm, offering EDM fans something more than momentary euphoria.

“Pregame” opens the EP with a steady EDM runway walk groove that, true to its name, prepares listeners for Fiona and Isabelle’s night out. They repeatedly ask, “Do you wanna come?” making the song sound like the final warning before a wild lost weekend. Although stripped down compared to the other tracks, it rightfully eases you into their world before injecting their refreshingly personable stories.

As if in sync with an actual night out, “ALL MY WORLDS” finds the two in the middle of an underground rave or a crowded music festival. While most of the tracks revel in their simplicity, the sprawling electronic percussion on “ALL MY WORLDS” buzzes louder and louder, practically screaming to be played loud. Unlike the dance edit of the song, which keeps matters moving, FIIZ allows this version to breathe through the pulsating bass before crescendoing into a breakdown.

NIGHTCAP drew from outside their wheelhouse with the help of Dutch producer Evanly, whose contributions naturally meld into FIIZ’s widely appealing electropop. The seamless collaboration marks the next evolutionary step for Fiona and Isabelle’s EDM-adjacent music without losing the tightly-knit chemistry heard in early songs that makes you dance and introspect when the party’s over.
