RedrumSociety reinjects a grand exuberance into their sound with the new single “Don’t Hate Me.” No strangers to harrowing setbacks, the band spent the tail end of 2023 as well as the beginning of 2024 enduring a fresh series of obstacles, from the personal to the geographical. Their latest offering erupts as an echo of their newfound jubilance—relishing the firm footing they now find themselves resting on.

With “Don’t Hate Me” the band reveals its eagerness to tap back into the alt-rock ecstasy of some of their previous singles. Despite encompassing the words of a jilted lover whose affections are firmly unrequited, the song swoons, howls, and romps with surprising cheerfulness. Zach Cohen’s electric and mercurial voice shape-shifting to channel its unabashed but unwanted gushings of affection.

Crackling with uninhibited energy fueled by its tangle of sizzling glam-rock riffs, stomping percussion, and wailing horns, “Don’t Hate Me” wastes zero sonic space in building toward euphoric heights. The track at times evokes everyone from the Scissor Sisters to George Michael with its zealous, unrestrained blitz of sound.

“‘Don’t Hate Me’ is about the perpetual pursuit of someone you want to be with, when they clearly don’t want anything to do with you,” Cohen explained. “It feels so good to be back, feeling more positive, making music again with RedrumSociety, and I hope this song reflects that we’re back and better than ever.”
