This past Saturday, Oct. 5, at Fiestón at L.A. Live, Estevie shined like a luminous supernova. Although she has performed at several shows and festivals in the Los Angeles area, including El Cid and The Paramount, this was our first time experiencing Estevie live, en viva. Ever since we heard her irresistible Summer bop, “Miami” (released June 2023), we have been hooked. Finally, experiencing her live show was a memorable evening that did not disappoint.
Without a doubt, Estevie has an incredible voice full of luscious but tender vocals. Judging by all the do-eyed fans who were willingly under her spell, she knows how to command a stage. Her presence is irresistible, both sweet and sexy. From her confident strut to the way she moved her hips in black leather fringe chaps, witnessing her live only solidified her talent and supernova trajectory.
Between songs, she charmed the crowd with gratitude. She playfully threw Estevie T-shirts to a few lucky gente and sang a Marilyn Monroe-esque “Happy Birthday” to a fan. But what really warmed my heart, and I might be biased here, was when she sang to a 7-year-old girl in the crowd and grabbed her hand from the stage to give the child a twirl. That little one was my hijita, and it gave me all the feels. It was so special to see my daughter experience her favorite artist live and feel the love radiating from Estevie and her.
Music is such an emotional vector. It has the ability to heal, inspire, and create joy for so many. It’s a force that brings people together regardless of their differences, and when experienced live and in the flesh, there are no divisions. Watching my daughter experience her pure, unfiltered joy, especially during a time that is so harrowing with world events currently taking place, filled my heart with love and hope.
Our little family attends numerous concerts and music events as part of our regular lifestyle. We work in music, but we actually are real fans and adore the live experience. We attend shows on our accord, such as Estevie’s. I had been trying to catch Estevie live since her gig at El Cid (2023), but between work and parenting, the stars didn’t quite align. But last night, they sure did. When I saw her Instagram post for her headline spot at Fiestón, I knew I had to tell my kiddo.
My child has attended numerous concerts and music festivals ever since she was a baby, and Estevie’s concert was the first I’ve ever seen my daughter fully engaged 110 percent. She didn’t ask me for a snack or when the show would finish, and she most certainly didn’t sit down. This little seven-year-old was full of Estevie fever, dancing to “la cumbia del cucuy” and “chuchuluco.” And can you blame her?! Estevie delivers a mesmerizing live show full of warmth and insatiable rhythms. Her voice is like a soothing hug, especially on songs like “como yo” (our favorite) and her newest single, “Corazón Tatuado.”
Many compare Estevie to the great Selena, whom Estevie has idolized from a young age. While the similarities are there, down to the loving support of her family, Estevie is blazing her own unique trail. Punctuating her profound presence as a rising musical and cultural force, Estevie has been winning fans in the Latin market and the indie pop world. The Los Angeles-based cumbia phenomenon is poised for success, and we can’t wait to see her go supernova.
