From the get-go of “Dead End,” it’s clear Dreamer Isioma is embracing a more eerie soundscape for their upcoming album, StarX Lover, out this spring. The nuts and bolts in the production underneath echoing keys set the scene for Dreamer Isioma, whose reverbed voice bleeds into the wavy, abrasive guitar. For all intents and purposes, “Dead End” couldn’t have been a more fitting title, with the apocalyptic instrumentation bringing another side out of Isioma.

As for the lyrics, they compliment the crushingly beautiful psychedelic rock production. At the start, Isioma admits, “The ghost of you still haunts me,” the sort of image that can’t be thrown out into the open like it’s nothing. However, the single lives up to its subject matter and then some, channeling chaos in all the right ways and leading into an explosive last 30 seconds that should serve as a good precedent for what’s to come out of StarX Lover.
