It may be their first time working together, but Samara Cyn and LA-based singer and producer Sherwyn make the most of their newest collaboration, “Pop n Olive.” Produced by Two Fresh, Cyn lets her unique brand of hip-hop take a backseat in favor of a smooth alternative slow seduction backed by Sherwyn’s punchlines. While the two trade pleasantries about unspecified love interests, they opt to play it cool, contrasting the velveteen instruments fitting for an impassioned vocalist but repurposed for catchy bars.
However, it’s the chorus that quickly becomes the center of attention. The “It’s up” and “Choose up” melody courtesy of Cyn comes off as though it were engineered to get stuck in your head as soon as possible after the first listen. Even when Cyn and Sherwyn go back to trading one-liners, the unapologetically playful chorus leaves an impression that lasts until it comes back in towards the end. There, the two join one another once again in their duet, making for a sweet collaboration perfect when played with the windows down.
The new jam arrives with a sweet visual directed by Luciana Baldovino where we see the duo Samara and Sherwyn exploring the suburbs as they embark on another adventure. Expect more from the duo soon! Catch Samara Cyn on tour this spring and summer with a Los Angeles date opening for Smino at the Shrine Expo Hall on May 1.
