On Tuesday night, Pasadena songbird Fana Hues‘ show at The Echo in Los Angeles showcased an array of talented, soulful singers. The finale of the “Matters of the Heart” tour was a master class from start to finish, highlighting the power and diversity of women in the soulful music space.

Before Hues took the stage and stepped into a sea of fluorescent purple light, the crowd enjoyed performances from three exceptionally talented women who should be on everyone’s radar.
Good Girl, a duo composed of singer-songwriters YULI and Sensei Bueno, set the tone for the night with their alternative song “Real Real” from their project “Velvet Tapes Vol. 1.”
alici, a hopeless romantic and nostalgia lover, brought smooth bossa nova Brazilian vibes with her Portuguese track “Matar Saudade,” a jazzy number about the yearning one feels for the past. She also performed “Souvenir,” the title track from her upcoming 2024 album that includes “Lágrimas Negras” and one of my favorites, “Limbo.”

Dominican princess PAMÉ captivated the audience with her charm and sexy allure. She offered a few Spanglish lessons and infectious bachata bops, including “Lágrimas de Cocodrilo,” “Edge of Falling,” and a sweet love song titled “Treasure,” featuring CLEW, which took everyone by storm.
When Fana Hues hit the stage, her silver-painted fingertips caressed the mic, and the essence of Donna Summer and Chaka Khan filled the air. The packed, sold-out show was in for a treat, leaving a lasting impression that confirms her as one of my favorite performances for 2025.
One thing I can say without a doubt is that she is undeniably incredible—so soulful and captivating. She is a force to be reckoned with as a performer, especially a vocalist.

Throughout the night, Fana bounced around her previous projects, performing songs from her 2022 release “flora + fana,” like “Pieces” and “BAD BAD,” along with fan favorites from her latest release, “MOTH.” The crowd was mesmerized, like moths to a flame, becoming lost in tracks such as “Rental.” Hues engaged with the audience, discussing songs she turns to in times of hopelessness, referring to them as her “north stars,” and even conducting market research on what they do in relationships.

Fana shared personal and inspirational words before singing “Fall in Line,” prompting cheers of gratitude from the Black women in attendance. “Being a Black woman in America, people tell you to fall in line, but you’re never supposed to fall in line,” Fana Hues declared.

To conclude the night, Hues was joined on stage by some family members for a short dance number before performing “I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO DANCE.” What a fantastic way to wrap up the tour and show love to those who know her best.
