Following a brief hiatus that ended with the single “There Goes My Baby,” Mexican-Dominican singer-songwriter Ambar Lucid is back with “6am,” out via her new home at Nice Life Recording Company. Any concerns for Ambar’s return are short-lived as the first few notes from producers The Wavys envelop listeners in a psychedelic swirl of reverb and electronic instrumentation.
Ambar more than understands the track’s feel, asking herself, “Can I get high at 6 a.m.?” Her vocals, soft yet restless, capture the dizziness of waking up – or rather, staying up – late at night. But she breaks out of the mold shortly after, with her bursts of frustration coinciding with the now-alive, shimmering production.
The last leg of “6am” returns to the impassioned performance from Ambar, who at this point has morphed with the track as though it were her symbiote. Perhaps most impressive is how the psychedelic atmosphere remains intact – serving as a testament to how Ambar can capture such a specific emotion or feeling and electrify it into another highlight in her catalog.
Ambar Lucid will release her new EP EL JARDÍN DE LÁGRIMAS on May 9. Visit Ambar Lucid on Instagram and her Bandcamp to stay updated on new releases and tour dates.
