Black Pumas co-founder Adrian Quesada is gearing up for his upcoming solo album, Boleros Psicodélicos II, out June 27 via ATO Records, with his Angélica Garcia team-up, “No Juego.” 2025 has already been a busy year for Quesada, serving as one of the key orchestrators behind the soundtrack to the movie “Home Free,” and already upping the ante on releases with “Ojos Secos” featuring Cuco.

But “No Juego” brings a retro psychedelic flavor out of Quesada and Garcia, who succeed in standing out against the pristine production courtesy of the former. Garcia, in particular, understands the assignment and makes the track her own during her portion, singing her heart out as if it were bleeding from overwhelming emotion. Quesada’s instruments comes in to bridge between the impassioned moments, letting the track’s psychedelic swirl rotate around Garcia.

What’s most impressive about “No Juego” is how Quesada lets Garcia let loose on production that somehow manages to take hallmarks of music from the 20th century while making them seem fresh. It’s a trend that’s setting up Boleros Psicodélicos II to be a more than worthy addition to Quesada’s catalog.

See Adrian Quesada open for Hermanos Gutiérrez in LA at the Greek Theatre on May 17.
