With a name like Punk Crush, it’s only right that the LA-based pop-punk band brings in the heat on their song, “Trust Fund Baby.” Coming off of their recently released debut album, FERAL, “Trust Fund Baby” is a boomstick of a track that begins with a slight flicker in the form of gentle guitar strumming. However, the band takes its time to build up to that eventual release of chaos in the second half, preceded by hushed vocals serving as a misdirect.

If anything, the first impression of the song is something of a calm after the storm. Alongside the guitar, fluttering chimes in the background help to soften the otherwise destructive lyrics describing the scene of a burning house. It’s why the arrival of a piercing electric guitar hits hard, cutting into “Trust Fund Baby” like a knife to a chalkboard.

From there, it’s a chain reaction, with the band spending the remaining two minutes combining guitar strumming turned shredding and the loneliness of the song’s namesake. Considering it took about three years for Punk Crush to follow up on their first few singles, “Trust Fund Baby” and the rest of the FERAL tracklist more than justify the wait.
