LA post-punk duo Sextile rang in the start of the month with their newest album, yes, please., and they’re living up to that sentiment with songs like “Women Respond to Bass.” While the 13-track album is chock-full of ‘90s-inspired head-bangers, “Women Respond to Bass” follows that trend and then some, bringing with it an atmosphere à la Blade in a blood-soaked club.

In keeping with the same energy heard on their 2023 album, Push, Brady Keehn and Melissa Scaduto take on techno and industrial with playful yet promiscuous one-liners you could only get from the modern day. The track goes off at rapidfire speeds through its croaking synths and thumping bass at the core of the instrumental, with the latter’s pulsating rhythm more than proving the title’s declaration.

“‘Women Respond to Bass’ was written as a sassy strutter for the girls, gays, and theys,” said Scaduto, explaining the song and its video. “We originally wanted to do this video as a Boiler Room style video, but because of time we were unable. While we were in Tokyo, our new friends and promoters we were working with there offered to make a video and they made it happen the next day. We shot it at 4 AM after we played a show and [then] regrouped for another night to shoot. Tokyo being the main character, we are now in love with Japan.”
