Texas-based singer-songwriter Lew Apollo is gearing up for Fool’s Gold, his debut album out August 8, with a summer-ready single, “No Room In Hell.” Although the single comes straight from the album’s tracklist, it was made during a special lightning in a bottle moment for the Minnesota native, who wrote “No Room In Hell” in about 45 minutes. The reason for the quick creation process? Good old-fashioned inspiration.

“‘No Room In Hell’ came to me in about 45 minutes,” said Apollo. “I was in a good mood, riding high on discovering the band Jungle, and everything just clicked—the beat, the melody, the lyrics. It captures the exact energy of the record: shiny on the outside, but full of deeper questions underneath.”

That sudden rush of excitement on Apollo’s part is evident through the fact that the track wastes no time in getting started, effortlessly finding its footing thanks to a shimmering guitar and velveteen vocals. Like the source of its creation, “No Room In Hell” takes some cues from Jungle’s brand of revived 70s soul, albeit with a laidback attitude that Apollo brings to the same.

Uniquely, the song also incorporates elements of various genres, ranging from blues to soul, and combines them with a pop music coating that speaks to Apollo’s accessibility. Contrary to the album title, his luck shows no signs of waning if “No Room In Hell” is anything to go by.
