The Yeah Yeah Yeahs at the Orpheum Theatre in LA have been the shows creating major fomo, especially for fans of the band and the indie aughts. And rightfully so, as the Hidden In Pieces Tour is unlike anything we’ve witnessed from the band.
This has been my favorite band since the early 2000s indie sleaze art rock days. I have lost count of how many times I’ve seen them, and those early days, well, they’re a bit of a blur.

Hearing your favorite Yeah Yeah Yeahs rare cuts and fan faves with the elegance of a string quartet and lots of acoustic guitars, even an organ, was so refreshing and fun. Some songs had a bit of twang, but they were still full of energy.
Above all, this was an incredibly emotional experience. A beautiful one. It’s hard to explain unless you have grown old-errrr with this band. I mean, we are all in our 40s and then some.
The LA show at the Orpheum felt like an indie cool kids reunion, seeing friends from the East Hollywood indie music scene back when Spaceland still existed. What a feeling. 🫶🏽

Karen O literally illuminated in the grandeur of the historic theater. And it wasn’t just because of that dazzling gold Christian Joy jumpsuit with a matching Tomikono headpiece. Under a blue light and softly singing the lyrics to “Blacktop,” Karen O glowed like a mythical indie rock goddess, which isn’t too far from the truth. And can we talk about those epic light-up moon shoes KO was sporting for the encore?! My child wants them now after seeing the video of her dancing in them to “Zero.”

Both Brian and Nick were suited up in dashing black suits along with longtime collaborator Imaad Wasif, a stunning all-women string quartet, and a conductor who doubled as a stand-up bass player.
The entire show was a spectacular and very magical affair. Even chatting with fans and old friends in the Orpheum club bar was an experience, sharing some of those aforementioned blurry memories, as we sipped on signature gold lion lemonade.
This show was more than just seeing the Yeah Yeah Yeahs live. It was and felt like community.
Because cool kids they belong together.
