When it comes to collaborations, NINA of bar italia and Yves Tumor make it sound easy on their newest collaborative single, “WE DONT COUNT,” out via Warp Records. The single marks Yves’ first release since their explosive album, Praise A Lord Who Chews But Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds). As for NINA, she’s kept busy throughout 2025, including multiple singles, an EP with Orazio, and The Richest Man In Babylon OST, an original score for her movie of the same name with Sam Fenton.
Similar to their solo work, the thundering drums and edge comparable to early post-punk bands are reminiscent of Yves’ most recent music off Praise A Lord. However, NINA brings her own lo-fi and jangle-pop sensibilities to the track, distinguishing “WE DONT COUNT” from a simple duet and into a merging of worlds.
The seemingly effortless ability for the two to blend their styles is apparent in the second half, where they share an equal number of moments in the spotlight outside of their harmonizing during the chorus. At the same time, they keep the song’s confrontational and punchy energy whenever one of them assumes lead vocalist responsibilities and leads the charge.
By the end, their shared fusion of genres lends to what separates them from a crowd of other musicians attempting to break the mold, with “WE DONT COUNT” coming out of the gate as a high bar for the two’s future releases.
