Whether you’ve heard of them through Viagra Boys’ latest tour or their explosive 2023 EP, Teeth, it’s only a matter of time before Austin-bred band Die Spitz takes off to the next level. The punk 4-piece just released their debut album, Something To Consume (Sept. 12, 2025), through Jack White‘s label Third Man Records and will be touring North America through November.
The band’s origins date back to preschool, where Ava Schrobilgen and Eleanor Livingston first met. From there, Kate Halter would come into the picture during middle school, with Chloe De St. Aubin joining when they all decided to form a band in 2022 after a viewing of the Mötley Crüe biopic “The Dirt” inspired them.
Like spontaneous combustion, figuratively and in a somewhat literal sense, the four-piece landed on their German band name, or “Die Horny” in English, after getting fueled by a “brown bag of Fireball.” That same spontaneity and devil-may-care attitude carries over to their debut album, albeit with a level of refinement that would take other bands years to attain.
The aforementioned Teeth EP put them on the map thanks to confrontational tracks like “Hair of Dog” and “Chug.” The former, in particular, is a two-step anthem combining elements of punk, hardcore, and nu metal for a straight rager. However, Something To Consume takes those early strong suits and injects them with nitrous, as well as mature themes reflecting their growth.
Opener “Pop Punk Anthem (Sorry for the Delay)” kicks Something To Consume off on a brooding note, with razor-sharp guitars and melancholic vocals contrasting the deceptive title. However, the track shifts gears and heads towards an unadulterated dark direction, the likes of which recall Deftones‘ highs.
The song’s energy carries over to the rest of the tracklist, exploring themes that find the band staring into a pit of darkness that their music guides listeners through. “There’s a political side to it, but addiction and love can also be all-consuming,” said Livingston.
It’s easy to say the band came together and subsequently found an audience in a relatively short amount of time. But that would be underselling the high-octane energy that’s catapulted Die Spitz, an especially impressive feat considering they dropped their debut album just three years after formation. With a slew of solo shows right around the corner, live crowds are sure to join in on their rise.
