In a meeting between two worlds, Los Mirlos and Bomba Estéreo have teamed up for a reimagining of the former’s classic single, “Eres Mentiroso.”
Although cumbia is a universal genre through and through, its roots in Latin America cannot be underestimated. Within Latin America, countries like Colombia and Peru have their own interpretations of the genre that vary stylistically.

With the new single from Los Mirlos and Bomba Estéreo, there’s no denying that cumbia is still alive. While most modern listeners know Bomba Estéreo from their collaboration with Bad Bunny, the Colombian collective proves Los Mirlos’ psychedelic and unabashedly Peruvian track is as timeless as the genre that the two share.
At the beginning of “Eres Mentiroso,” the sonic textures of the original are blasted into the present as Bomba Estéreo leaves its imprint on the song that’s equal parts tropical and electronic. It’s also immediately apparent that the two styles from both bands mesh together seamlessly, keeping the rhythm so your feet’s muscle memory isn’t confused in the slightest.

By the second half, the psychedelic nature comes back into play, arriving at what could easily become a clash in approaches. However, that never happens. Instead, “Eres Mentiroso” is a satisfying crossover that’s the sound equivalent of a full feast.
But what the collaboration succeeds most in is tearing down borders and showing how interconnected people from all walks of life are, whether in the rainforests of Peru or the Caribbean.
Of course, it helps that “Eres Mentiroso” is incredibly easy to dance along to.
