New York singer/songwriter Chloé Sautereau basks in her quieting vulnerabilities on new single “Ten Thousand Stories.” Born and raised in Geneva, she started writing and recording at an early age under the moniker Cee, releasing her debut EP As I Keep on Dreaming at just 18 years old. And it didn’t take long for the songs to find their way onto the Swiss airwaves. Her move to the U.S. spurred another name change — this time to sautereau — under which she penned the singles “What If” and “Conversation Hearts.”

Evidently, Sautereau (who now goes by their full name) is drawn to a kind of self-expression that embraces her many multitudes rather than fearing or agonizing over them. Every iteration serves as a necessary evolution of the amiable tenderness and piercing veracity that’s come to define her music.

Nowhere is that more true than on her latest single “Ten Thousand Stories,” where the budding artist contends with the overwhelming pressure of earnestly living and savoring the seemingly infinite possibilities of a city that restlessly beckons her. “Oh I’m trying / To keep up with the city lights,” she sings, balancing her glowing vocals on the edge of uncertainty and a tentative passion for life. “But I’m trippin’, oh I’m trippin’ / Over myself again.”

Lulled by gentle strums that entwine themselves behind Sautereau’s uplifting words, “Ten Thousand Stories” is not without radiant hope. “When I run by the Hudson / I know there’s no place I’d rather be,” she affirms through her soft coos before asking: “Have you seen / How the morning sun / Makes everything so lovely?” Softening the sharp limitations of one lifetime with a sublime appreciation over the handful of awe we do get to experience.

Be sure to give Sautereau’s previous projects a listen, especially her singles “What If” and “Conversation Hearts,” which feature a swelling pop-tint that lends her vocals an ecstatic buoyancy. She also released earlier this year the heartwrenching “Get to Know You Game,” a raw and sincere lament over tedious dating rituals in the modern and digital ages.
